PadMan is a 2018 Indian biographical comedy-drama film directed and written by R.Balki, featuring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in lead roles. It is based on the short story “The Sanitary Man of Sacred Land” in Twinkle Khanna’s book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, which is inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu who introduced low-cost Sanitary Pads.
Laxmikanth Chauhan is a partner cum tool operator in a workshop. He is against how ladies are treated in his society throughout the 5 day period. When he gets married he decides to create things higher for his wife Gayatri and purchases pad for her as she uses dirty cloth throughout the cycle which is unhygienic. Gayatri asks him to return the napkin packet as which is too costly. Laxmi then decides to form a hygienic napkin’s himself at the lower price. He convinces his wife to use it but they’re of no use he tries to make it much better however fails. Laxmi is then criticized in his village for taking over such initiative following which his family disowns him and he’s forced to go away from his village. But his hopes do not die he starts to analysis on how to create low price sanitary napkins for the betterment of women.
Padman gains a positive response from the public. It gives the government a social initiative to work upon the betterment of society.
Box Office: Padman Earns an innocent amount of ₹40.05 crores in its opening weekend in India.
In the United States and Canada, Pad Man grossed US$760,000.
